EDC of a Graphic Designer

We recently collaborated with Graphic Designer Billy French (@billyffrench) on the "Astronomer" Zippo lighter and the Swiss Army "Astronomer" Signature Knife. So what does his EDC look like? Read on to find out!

Featured Tools:

Activity Tracker: Fitbit
Wallet: Local Artisan based in North Carolina
Playing Cards: Bloodlines, printed by United States Playing Card Company
Notebook: Field Notes
Pen: Staedtler Mars 780 Technical Mechanical Pencil

Background:

Billy French is a Graphic Designer living in Durham, North Carolina. He currently works for a company called "Viget" where he designs large scale websites for a variety of clients. In the evenings and and during his free time, he freelances for his own clients, or works on his own personal projects.

Billy tells us that he's also an amateur magician so he's always been drawn to custom playing cards of all types. His current collection of playing cards dates back almost a decade! In 2015, Billy launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for his own custom illustrated playing cards - Bloodlines. He tells us that he never leaves his house without it!

Billy unintentionally got into EDC out of his own need as a designer. He tells us that every designer needs to carry a notebook and a pencil because you never know when an idea is going to strike you. Being prepared is key. Outside of design, Billy enjoys cooking, going to shows, and collecting records.

Favorite EDC Tool:

It's no surprise that Billy's favorite item is his deck of custom illustrated playing cards. He tells us that after over a year of design, planning, campaigning, blood, sweet & tears, holding your very own custom designed deck of cards feels surreal. Well done, Billy!
