Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.

For Showcase #100, we’ve got a special guest with us. And it’s none other than acclaimed movie director and producer, John Moore, who is best known for directing the Die Hard franchise and action war film, Behind Enemy Lines. Read on to find out all about John’s everyday arsenal as he takes the fight to Hollywood.

Featured Tools:

  • Knife 01: Benchmade Mel Pardue
My Benchmade Mel Pardue in Emergency Orange is just a joy to hold and operate. I use it for everything from opening mail to clipping the end off a good cigar. But the thing is with EDC, it's an endless pursuit. There's always another piece out there that you feel you have to have. I would hate to wake up one day thinking "That's it - I'm done, I have the perfect pocket...".

  • Knife 02: Boker Lancer courtesy of Urban EDC Supply

  • SAK: Victorinox Alox Pioneer

  • Multitool: Leatherman Piranha

  • Watch: Fortis Cosmonaut

  • Key Organizer: Key Smart

  • Pocket Clip: CountyComm Titanium Clip

  • Pen: Troika Engineer’s pen with screwdriver bits, a mini pry bar, wrench and bottle opener.

My name is John Moore and I’m a movie director. I’m based mostly in Los Angeles, but I move around a lot.

My pocket dump is substandard because I am constantly traveling, and airports are not EDC friendly places! So, I’ve included a few of my own pictures of my favorite pieces of gear.

I am a recent convert to EDC. Pinterest was what got me started because I was fascinated that the contents of people’s pockets could be so fascinating. It’s like a look into their lint.

When it comes to hobbies, well, I am lucky that my hobby is also my profession. I’m taking photos all the time. But I do also enjoy building the occasional model airplane!

    Favorite EDC Tool:

My current favorite EDC piece is my Benchmade Mel Pardue folder because it’s just so well made and effective.

    Next On Your Gear Radar:

I am always on the lookout for quality - small flashlights like the Muyshondt Aeon MK.lll and tactical pens are a must even though I am constantly losing them or having them stolen by airport TSA folks!

Tactical pens are great. But when I go anywhere that has a metal detector, I carry my Caran d’Ache ballpoint. It’s sturdy, good looking, and is obviously “only” a pen. I used to carry the Parker Jotter in stainless, but it sticks open. I’ve bought several and they all seem to have that issue. I attached the smallest Martac flashlight to my keyholder (leather Orbitkey.) Works great and always comes back to me!
