A proud new dad to a son and a daughter, Dion (@dailypocketlint_edc) juggles his time between family and work with amazing fortitude. As a Service Manager for a solar installation company, Dion needs to be prepared for anything – and it shows in his choice of tools. Read on for the full rig rundown, and find out how Dion deploys his highly capable and carefully considered EDC.

Featured tools:

  • Flashlight: Surefire
This is my Surefire G2X 600-lumen flashlight with the Thyrm switchback 2.0 pocket clip attachment. It's a good flashlight, but with the addition of the Thyrm, it really makes it a cool EDC light.

  • Pry Bar: Titaner Multitool
My two most common needs are something flat to pry and wedge with, and Phillip’s head screwdriver… this covers both with minimal pocket space. I've attached a paracord lanyard and wooden beads for extra functionality.

  • Pliers: Knipex
These are the Cobra XS Water Pump Pliers. Awesome pliers that will get a hold of much more than just bolts. Use them for extra grip and in tight spaces.

  • Knife 01 : Christian Roode (custom)
This has the dyed micarta scales and brass liners, made by Christian Roode out of Iowa. Custom made and one of the first knives that I really “fell for”.

  • Knife 02: Kizer Begleiter 2
This has the N690 blade and linen micarta scales. One of my favorite “budget” type knives, the micarta looks great and the action is so smooth, I could and do fidget with it for hours.

  • Pen: SmoothPro
Solid Brass Bolt Action Pen with Tungsten tip and Paracord, ceramic, and wooden bead.

  • Hank: Floral Hank
Given to me as a pocket square in a good friend’s wedding, now makes perfect EDC hank.

  • Notebook: Field Notes
Notebook with gaffers tape on the spine for support because I keep in my back pocket everyday. I often have to start warranty tickets and take phone calls in the field and need a quick access to a notepad. This comes in very useful and handy.

      My story:

I'm new to Dad life (a son and a daughter) and I'm a Service Manager at a locally owned Solar Installation Company from Southern New Jersey.

I split my days between the office and field, so it’s important for me to not only be prepared for whatever I may come across in basements, attics, and electrical enclosures, but I also need to be comfortable sitting at a desk for a few hours on end as well.

I got into EDC like many of us, before I had ever heard of EDC... I worked in construction and would always load up my pockets with pencil, blade, and pry bar each day so my most used tools were all at hand. Combining that with day to day life and a newer interest in photography, has proved to be a lot of fun.

My number one hobby/ passion will always be music. I’m a bass player and have been playing jazz/ various types music since high school. Right now however, my free time all goes to the family and hanging out with our one and a half year old, and three month old. I look forward to the days when the kids are a little more self-sufficient and I can find some time to play music again.

      Favorite EDC tool:

The Christian Roode Rasp Knife is one of my favorite EDC items overall. It was one of the first knives I really fell in love with, and now that my collection is growing and I’m adding more high quality production knives, I'm happy to still find myself appreciating this one and its uniqueness often.

      What's on my gear radar:

The next purchase on my radar is a KME sharpening system to start honing my sharpening skills. Now that I have a little collection going, my next step is being able to fully maintain them how I would like.

Next on my "fun" wish list would have to be something Voxnaes-designed from either Giant Mouse or Fox Knives.
