Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature a member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.

From across the pond, we chat with Matt (@mattd_edc) who only got into EDC recently by way of boredom and the lockdown. As an engineer at a power station, Matt's able to use his gear on daily basis, which helps him fine-tune his carry based on real-world functionality. Read on for the full rundown and find out who in the EDC community Matt really wants to buy a beer for!

What's in your carry?

  • Flashlight: Olight I3T EOS
Brilliant little flashlight, really powerful and really handy to carry every day. I didn't realize how much I'd use a flashlight until I started carrying one.

  • Headphones: Apple Air Pods
These go absolutely everywhere with me! Battery life is amazing and they're great when you're on the go.

  • Pen: Petes Pirate Life Pirate Pen
Best pen I own because it looks great and really smooth to write with.

  • Aftershave: Musk and Hustle #122
So many times, I have left the house and wanted to top up my aftershave. The Nitro pen let me do that wherever I go. really handy to be able to carry my favorite aftershave with convenience.

  • Wallet: Ursa Maui
I had looked for a wallet for so long (I'm super picky) and I could never decide what one to get, that's until I saw the Maui! Wow, it's so brilliantly made and fits my needs perfectly. carries a few cards and some emergency cash! Perfect!

  • SAK: Beaver Bladeworks Climber w/ RJK Customs Bead
Andy from @beaverbladeworks was kind enough to work with me to get my perfect SAK. Acid-washed tools and patina brass scales.

This is always in my pocket even when at home SAKs are so handy to have with you all the time its got me out of a pinch on a few occasions. The bead is from a great maker at @rjkcustoms, patinated brass, perfect bead for my perfect SAK.

  • Knife: Fox Livri
This is the latest addition to my collection. UK law restricts knives that I can carry but this one fits in great. Classic slipjoint knife with green micarta scales.

  • Hank: Real Men Carry
Such a great design and really well made with top quality material. Fits in great with my carry and works as a brilliant photo background.

What's your story?

Hi! I'm Matt from the UK and I'm a maintenance engineer at a power station. It's a really interesting job that I can use a lot of my EDC gear every day. In my free time, I'm a huge gaming nerd and I also love going out and shooting city and street photography.

I first got into EDC during lockdown this year. I found myself really bored at home trying to find something to photograph and I remembered I had an old
SAK in my drawer.

So, I started with that and then I got bit by the bug and started acquiring various gear and as they say the rest is history. I owe a lot of my early enthusiasm to @owen_edc.

He reached out the day I started my IG account and has been a great friend ever since, always offering advice and support. One day, I hope to finally meet him and buy him a beer to say thanks.

Favorite EDC Tool?

Definitely the custom Beaver Bladeworks Climber because it's the perfect SAK.

What's On Your Gear Radar?

Next on my gear radar will be another custom SAK for sure.
