Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.

From Fresno, we speak to Josh who's a proud dad and a graduate student in History. A long-time EDC enthusiast and knife lover (who isn't?), Josh values the innovation and diversity most when it comes to EDC and the community. Read on for Josh's full rig rundown, and find out the story behind those stylish shades!

Featured tools:

  • Knife 01: Peña’s Mula X-Series
I was lucky enough to snag a black micarta inlay version of Enrique Peña’s Mula X-Series a few months ago, and it’s fantastically slicey and fidgety.

  • Knife 02: Urban EDC/Vitesse RockitI absolutely adore the Urban EDC/Vitesse Rockit and I carry it daily. It just feels good in the hand and is great for a wide variety of tasks.

  • Pry: Vero Engineering Fulcrum
I think I found my forever pry bar with the Vero Engineering Fulcrum. I love that it basically has the footprint of a full size pen and the built-in multi bit driver is awesome.

  • Pen: Tactile Turn
I received my Tactile Turn Bolt Action Pen (short/Ti) as a graduation present when I earned my BA. It’s so light and writes so smooth, all while being super tough and solid. Amazing pen!

  • Multi-tool: Leatherman Juice S2
By far my most consistent piece of EDC gear is my Leatherman Juice S2. This is an older version of the now discontinued model that has served me well over the years and is the perfect multi tool for every day carry. I love it. Nice big scissors, blade, and bottle opener on the outside, with pliers and drivers on the inside. Perfection!

  • Lighter: Zippo
I often carry this brass Zippo with a butane torch insert. It’s fun and fidgety, looks cool, and works great for lighting all types of candles, birthday or scented!

  • Flashlight: Rovyvon Aurora A8
My go to light as of late is this Rovyvon Aurora A8. It’s tiny, bright, rechargeable, and full of functionality! (I also always have an Olight i1R on my keys).

  • Hank: Hallies Handmade Hanks
I have a few hanks that I received as gifts, but this one from Hallies Handmade Hanks on Etsy is the one I carry most. I tend to wear a lot of black, and it just goes! Great quality hank, and one of three I own from her.

  • Sunglasses: Prada
Sunglasses are Prada. A customer left them at my work years ago in Los Angeles. After months of sitting unclaimed in the safe, they eventually went home with me, and I love them.

  • Wallet: Urban EDC Companion
Last but not least, my Urban EDC Companion wallet has been working out well for me these last couple months. I wanted something simple. Super well made and looks cool too!

      My story:

Hi, my name is Josh, I’m 41, a dad, and a grad student in History from Fresno, CA. I’ve loved knives for as long as I can remember and I’ve been an EDC enthusiast for a good ten years at least.

I tend to change up some of the things I carry, especially pocket knives. However, the setup in this photo has been a fairly consistent carry as of late.

I really love not only the gear and the innovation in the EDC community, but the people as well. It’s a truly amazing and diverse group of people who share a love for knives, gear, and knolling.

      Favorite EDC tool:

My favorite EDC tool is probably the Leatherman Juice S2, which is my consistent piece of gear. It has everything I need – scissors, blade, bottle opener, pliers, drivers – and I love it!

      What's on my gear radar:

There's nothing I particularly need, but I'm always on the lookout for better.
