The Pilot Hi-Tec-C is renowned for its smoothness and precision. However, its biggest weakness lies in its cheap plastic housing. And that’s the problem that the CW&T Pen Type-A seeks to rectify. Not only is it a homage, but it’s also the ultimate upgrade to this legendary cult-favorite writer.
To create the most durable housing, every single part of the Pen Type-A is machined from solid stainless steel. The deep wells in the cylinders and the square sleeves are carefully drilled out from a solid block with a gun drill. This specialized process results in a perfectly straight and deep well.
The smooth cylindrical pen slides neatly into its sleeve and is held securely in place by a magnet. And you’ll note a slight popping sound when removing it from its sheath—the effect of high tolerances creating a pneumatic seal (reminiscent of an engine piston). Not only is the Pen Type-A visually stunning, it’s also a highly proficient writer. The stepped geometry of the tip leaves the contact point exposed, so you can see what you are drawing. This makes it perfect for architects, illustrators, and designers. Inside the ruler sleeve is a stepped area keeping the super fine tip gently rested against a silicon pad.
So if you enjoy the smooth, confident performance of the legendary Pilot Hi-Tec-C, but bemoan its cheap construction, then the stainless steel CW&T Pen Type-A will be a god-sent to your woes.
