Calling this blade a great deal is the understatement of the century. The Ohta FK7 Friction Folder is one of those blades that leave us flabbergasted - at both the quality and craftsmanship on display, as well as the incredible value it offers. A word of warning - if you want to get your paws on one of these - jump on it now. They are going to go fast.
From the land of the rising sun, the Ohta FK7 Friction Folder is a non-locking folder designed and handcrafted by custom knifemaker, Hiroaki Ohta. True to his motto, everything from start to finish is done and wrought by the masterful hands of Hiroaki Ohta himself.
Adhering strictly to his “less is more” mantra, the Ohta FK7 features an extended tang that serves as a convenient deployment method. When open, the tang sits within the spine of the handle while your grip closes around it. This prevents the knife from closing during use. There are no fancy accoutrements or unnecessary features - just a time-tested and field-proven design that works.
The blade is a functional drop point shape with a gorgeous satin finish, made from D2 tool steel - which is easy to sharpen and maintain while being unfailingly reliable. It also features a single-piece integral wood handle which comes with a lanyard hole and stainless steel pin and washer for durability.
The wooden handles exude a timeless charm while keeping the weight down. This makes for a superb gentleman’s EDC knife because it not only looks stunning but is also non-threatening and highly utilitarian. Whether you're looking for the perfect every folder, or simply want to enjoy having a functional work-of-art in your pocket - the Ohta FK7 fits every bill with style, grace and unerring aplomb.
