Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature a member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.

Doug (@theshutterdoug) has always been prepared for the worst, even before getting involved in the EDC community. In his own words, you never know what you’re getting into next. Read on to learn all about Doug’s daily carry and how he successfully juggles being a proud father of three, his work and his hobbies.

What's in your carry?

  • Knife: Benchmade Anthem
The handle is made of a solid piece of titanium. The action is super smooth making it a better fidget toy than ones my kids have.

  • Fragrance: Musk and Hustle No. 128
These have been a lifesaver for me. I roll these on multiple times throughout the day to mask the scent of work. Plus when you smell good, it gives you the confidence to meet new clients.

  • Pen: Big Idea Design Ti Click
My newest addition to my EDC. I've been seeing these pop up on other accounts like @erinsedc and @raven_the_pirate. I knew I had to give them a shot. Plus the stonewash finish is eye-catching. Once I got my hands on one, I realized why it was so popular. It is perfect for traveling. It can take almost any pen refill. I will probably keep this one around for a while.

  • Hank: Mighty Hanks
Being a photographer, this is a no brainer. A handkerchief with a microfiber backing. I clip these to a belt clip on my waist when I go to a session. Very handy and there are so many different styles to choose from.

  • Flashlight: Olight Ti S1Rii Winter
I absolutely love this light. The color, the texture, even the color of the light itself. It puts off a warm yellowish light. Perfect for warm, cozy-looking EDC photos.

What's your story?

My name is Doug. I live on a farm in the midwestern part of the US. I'm currently working in a metal manufacturing plant on an Emergency Response team. When I’m not putting my time in there, I’m running my own photography business.

To top it all off, I’m also a father of three wonderful children. It can get really crazy at times when the scheduling gets tight. Every day is a new day, I'm constantly learning new things about my work or what's popular with the youth. This life makes EDC a very important part of my life. You never know what you’re getting into next.

I’ve always been prepared for the worst. I would always carry a knife and light before I even got into the EDC community. A couple of years ago my friend was looking for a photographer to take shots of his Kydex sheaths. He asked me to do it, knowing my past. Then I did some research and came across the Instagram #edccommunity. Then it just took off from there.

I don’t have too much free time working multiple jobs, but during the summer work can be slow. During that time, I do a lot of outdoor activities with my kids. Fishing, hiking, cycling.

Favorite EDC Tool?

This is a very tough question. I use every piece every day and love each one. If I had to choose, it would be the Anthem. It's an amazing blade with great texture and good looks. Plus when it's not being used as a knife, it plays a great role as a fidget toy.

What's On Your Gear Radar?

I've got my eyes on a few. A LynchNW pry tool and a custom titanium Swiss Army Pioneer.
