Going from strength to strength, Laulima Metal Craft is illuminating the way forward with the Hoku, which is a compact flashlight powered by a 10440 (flat top) sized battery. A word of warning before we dive in, these are going to go fast. Make your move now if you've been on the hunt for one of these gems!
The name "Hoku" is Hawaiian for "star", the celestial bodies that the Polynesians used to navigate throughout the Pacific. This ethos is reflected in the Hoku's design, which is an ultra-compact flashlight featuring your choice of a copper or brass heat sink to which a FET driver and Nichia 219C 4000k single emitter are built. The FET driver is programmable and delivers up to about 500 lumens.
Like the iridescent North Star itself, this Hoku features a parabolic reflector, which helps gather the light and focus it out the front – resulting in a beautifully even, artifact-free throw of floody light that makes navigating in a dark a breeze.
A true labor of love from Mitch Lum and Josh from Dawson Machine Craft, this is an ode to old-world craftsmanship and modern-day performance. If you're looking for the perfect, do-it-all, heirloom-quality EDC flashlight – the Hoku will lead the way.
