Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.

This week, we have a guest all the way from Berlin, Germany. Ben (@roadsurvivalist) is a photographer, and as his moniker implies, he’s also a survival and bushcraft enthusiast. Read the full story to find out how Ben’s philosophy of preparedness factors into his everyday carry!

Featured Tools:

  • Knife: Mick Strider Custom SMF
My custom SMF features a nightmare grind, CTS 204P blade steel (equivalent to M390 Boehler), titanium 'lego' scales and full titanium hardware. This is my most recent piece from Mick. I love the custom grind on this one. The grind has a lot of depth and I can easily get amazing light reflections on this one. This knife is built as solid as a tank in all aspects and I can always count on it.
  • SAK: Custom Almknives
This is a custom conversion of the popular Victorinox Pioneer X. It features a damascus steel blade, titanium scales with bit cutouts, anodized titanium liners, keyring and stonewashed tools. This item is probably the most sentimental piece I have in my collection.

I wanted the best small multitool money could buy, so I ordered this custom Almknives. It was amazing to see this idea come to life! This piece is actually the last one Artur from Almknives has ever produced. Soon after Artur took my order, Victorinox sent him a letter, prohibiting him from showing his conversions to public. Artur went out of business one day before I received my Almknives in the mail.
  • Flashlight: Muyshondt Aeon Mk. III
The Aeon Mk. lll comes with full titanium hardware, a sapphire crystal lens and an awesome neutral tint LED. The reflector has a nice light spill, as well as an incredible reach for the light output. It sees use every day, especially in the winter time.

  • Pen: Fellhoelter TiNy Bolt Pen
This pen features stonewashed full titanium hardware, except for the spring and cartridge. I love it because the size is perfect for me! It slides easily into the pocket and barely takes up any space.

Background:

Hi, my name is Ben, also know as the RoadSurvivalist on Instagram. I work as a photographer and I'm currently based in Berlin, Germany.

Before I got into everyday carry, I was into survival and bushcraft. It was from those same principles and ethos of preparedness that led me to the realm of everyday carry. Eventually, the idea of having a well-rounded everyday carry became an important part of my overall preparedness, along with my other preparation and outdoor gear.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time and hiking in the great outdoors (which explains my love for bushcraft and survival). I also love traveling, skiing, all things car-related as well as making beautiful images through my photography.

Favorite EDC Tool:

My most favorite piece? That’s a hard one. If I were pressed, I will say that it's probably my AlmknivesVictorinox conversion. It's a truly unique piece and it’s irreplaceable.
